was the “Third Rome”, after Rome and Constantinople,
while St. Petersburg was Peter the Great’s Venice of the
North.
Fly into St. Petersburg, be met at the airport by your guide and

Russia. A sample itinerary could include: Day 1 – St.
Petersburg
Upon arrival be met by your guide and driver, then lunch and relaxation
at your hotel. After a rest, get an overview of St. Petersburg
in comfort, safely and privacy.
Day 2 – St. Petersburg
A spectacular hydrofoil ride to Peterhof, the Palace that surpasses
Versailles in beauty and grandeur. After returning to St. Petersburg
a three hour tour of the romantic canals and rivers of St. Petersburg.
Evening at the Mariinsky.
Day 3 – St. Petersburg
A visit to Hermitage, one of the greatest museums of the world.
Evening at the Mussorgsky Theatre for a ballet. A visit to the
Church on the Spilled Blood, site of the assassination of Alexandre
II (who liberated Russia’s serfs two years before Lincoln
freed the slaves) and Kazan Cathedral. Evening performance of
the St. Petersburg Philharmonia.
Day 4 – St. Petersburg
A visit to St. Isaacs Cathedral, probably the best symbol of Russia’s
power in the 19th Century, then the Museum of Political History,
chronicling the tragedies and triumphs of the 20th Century in
Russia. Afternoon at Peter and Paul Fortress.
Dinner at Caravan, bringing you to the Silk Road while still in
St. Petersburg.
Day 5 – St. Petersburg and Moscow
Visit to Yusupov Palace, the ever-popular site of Rasputin’s
murder in 1916.
Farewell to St. Petersburg, a short flight to Moscow, check in
at hotel. After a rest, a dusk tour of the highlights of Moscow.
Day 6– Moscow
Start
the day on Red Square surrounded by the two symbols of Russia,
the Kremlin and St. Basil’s Cathedral. Visit the Great Kremlin
Palace, the Diamond Fund, the Armory Museum, and other museums
in the area. Visit the Gorky House, the best example of the architecture
of Fyodor Shekhtel (the Russian Gaudi). Concert at the intimate
Scriabin House.
Day 7 – Moscow
Travel on the Moscow Metro, the most beautiful, efficient and
clean public mass transit system in the world. After lunch on
a private boat while touring the Moscow River Tour, visit the
House on the Embankment, a unique museum that chronicles some
of the horrors of Stalin’s rule, then see the newly-rebuild
Church of Christ the Savior.
Performance at the Bolshoy, followed by a farewell dinner at Le
Cardinal.
Day 8 – Moscow
Final farewells and transfer to the airport for return home.
